Don’t tell Asheville, but we are a little over the moon for Greenville, South Carolina – a great day trip or overnight option from anywhere in Western North Carolina.
About 1 hour and 20 minutes by car from AVL – sometimes 1.5 hours with traffic – Greenville is a vibrant and bustling city filled with restaurants, hiking and biking trails, breweries, theaters, and breathtaking parks.
The city is massive, and like Asheville, we aren’t sure if we will ever experience, eat, drink, and hike it all.
Greenville is home to the Peace Center, known for its off-Broadway shows, as well as the Greenville Zoo, which boasts resident giraffes, orangutans, owls, and endangered wildlife.
While here, bike the scenic Swamp Rabbit Trail, and visit nearby cities like Travelers Rest.
Of course, you might most recognize Greenville from photos of its single-suspension bridge, Liberty Bridge, at Falls Park on the Reedy.
On your way back to Asheville, consider dinner in Hendersonville or spend time in Flat Rock. Greenville to Hendersonville is just under an hour.
